Miura Haruma is one of the most versatile young actors in Japan. He's only 17 (at the time of this writing) and he's one of the brightest stars on the horizon! This past autumn he co-starred in the smash movie,
Koizora, a tear-jerker in every sense of the word. Without him as Hiro, the movie would not have packed such an emotional punch. Before that, he portrayed Hiro's polar opposite, Satoshi Kirino (Kiri-chan), a 15-year-old father, in the controversial television drama,
14-sai-no-ha (
14-year-old-Mother). He also had the starring role in the surfer/coming-of-age movie,
Catch a Wave and he was cast as the most curious child in the
Wowow drama,
Children. However, Haruma-kun captured my attention years earlier when he portrayed Jotaro in the NHK Taiga drama,
Musashi. Although he wasn't an ugly duckling by any stretch of the imagination, he was clearly a work in progress and I couldn't be more pleased with the results.
He's currently featured in
Binbo Danshi with Oguri Shun. His character, Shiraishi Ryo, is nothing short of amazing. He's 17 and burdened with paying off the 10 million yen debt his parents incurred. Haruma-kun will also be featured in the upcoming Spring 2008 drama,
Gokusen 3.
Haruma-kun has also released two movies this year.
Negative Happy Chainsaw Edge is an independent film depicting him as a bad boy. I haven't seen the movie because I wasn't willing to brave the snow to try to make my way to the theaters that show indie films. His other movie,
Naoko, in which he co-stars with Juri Ueno was released on Feb. 16, 2008). It was absolutely brilliant! If you haven't seen it, you need to do so as soon as possible.
Mirua Haruma Watch is a private journal, not a community. It's just a nice little place where I can keep track of this emerging superstar. This is my first fan girl effort, so if you like Haruma-kun, too, please feel free to drop in.
I don't have a friends policy or anything. Usually I just click on "friend this person," but that doesn't guarantee I'll ever see your journal. It's not that I don't care. However, I made this journal for my Miura Haruma adoration. It's flagrant fan girl gushing. I leave the cold hard world stuff to my regular email inbox.
Lots of stuff here is locked, mostly because this journal is for me and my Haruma-kun adoration. If you wish to join me on Haruma's Planet, come on in.
